On Sunday afternoon, Brian rests his hand on the fence by the park and waits.
His friends keep calling out to him:
“Come on, Brian! Let’s play soccer on the dirt field!”
But Brian shakes his head and says, “No!” He keeps waiting.
Because something special happens on weekends…
Dad comes home!
Brian keeps peeking over the fence, standing on his tiptoes to see when Dad’s car will turn onto the road.
The moment Dad’s car appears, Brian runs toward it so he can hop in and ride the rest of the way home with him.
As soon as Dad sees Brian, he honks the horn.
Honk! Hoooonk!
“Hi, Dad!” Brian calls out.
“Hey, son! Hop in, let’s go!” Dad replies.
When Dad is home, Brian has the best time.
First, Mom makes their favorite meal—rice with stew and potatoes.
The next morning, they go to the park together and run around with the neighbors.
Then Dad teaches Brian how to play cards.
In the afternoons, Brian loves to watch his dad.
Dad plays music on his old stereo and polishes his shoes.
But Sunday evenings always feel a little sad… because Dad has to go back to work the next day.
Brian says goodbye, but he knows Dad will be back next weekend.
